Welcome to a little ' seasoning ' here at IA , imissJG . As a self referred newbie I have had my correcting . A few times . So The Best Thing to do is breathe , a few times , then do nothing . No flaming . No running away . Stay . Learn . The first thing to learn is that on the forum page if you click on the persons handle , all of their posts come up . Ashes has been posting since early 2006 . A softer approach may have been better . I look forward to your next post . ;)

I thought you were a brand , spanking new newbie , and I did not want you to feel blown away . But you have the right attitude . See you on down the line . And boy , I am missing him .

Don't I owe you something for winning the hoops' pool back in March (early April)?

Good Morning, bluedevil: Great to hear from you; you definitely don't owe me anything --- that basketball tournament was the weirdest one since its inception. ...almost as weird as any other member of the band besides Jerry performing a classic such as "Peggy-O."

bluedevil, I have not seen any incarnations of the various bands post-Jerry departure. I cannot imagine hearing another member of the band perform one of the Jerry/Hunter gems and/or one of the tunes that Jerry simply made "his own" [for example, "Peggy-O"].

Yeah, it would be a valid accusation for someone to call me "close-minded." In my small, closed world I still treasure all my memories of seeing and hearing Jerry perform in such a way that nobody could even approach that "place" inside me where Jerry and Hunter have soothed my soul for decades while simultaneously pushing me through my "comfort zone" inside my mind.

I must admit it makes me want to puke to think that they now go for the money-grab to support a politician by using Hunter gems such as “Bird Song” and “Ripple.” What the fuck(?) It makes me wonder if the wheel has turned and they now play it for silver and no longer for life. I suspect that they don't peform "Throwing Stones" at the fundraisers.

Oh, well, bludevil, thanks for stopping-by and saying, "Hello." I sincerely hope you and your family are doing well.

"...his cover's blown...,"

PS: I hope you have seen or will see Richard Thompson on tour.

Ashes - Cannot agree more re seeing post-Jerry lineups. I've seen Ratdog a couple of times, and saw Phil with Paul Barrerre and Billy Payne from LIttle Feat on a bill w/ Dylan, and the VOID that is there is too big. I treasure the memories and relive and rediscover many on this site and elsewhere. The Phil sung Peggy-O at a Barbara Boxer fundraiser, which he has every right to do if he wants, is brutal.

RT - his band is coming back around in the fall and I'll definitely go. He just keeps putting out great material and one day the masses will learn of it, but until then, I'll keep getting good seats.

Ashes , my query was directed above to imissJG , who indicated switching handles .
I , for one , do not think your posts have caused any confusion . Many vets seem quite pleased to , ' have you back '.
edit - And by your reply to BD , it would be good to have your voice around .

Oh I think the post, greeting Ashes, was just fine. Some of us don't take the time to read and learn, and just dive right in. That's how I did it back in '87!

Oh and having never greeted Ashes before, HI!!!! Have read your postings for a year now, started posting about 7 months ago, yet sadly have very little knowledge to share with the rest of the forum. I'm more of a lurker, a streamer and torrent fiend. Micah's a good guy, love his postings, his satire, and his wit.

Keep posting Ashes, love your knowledge!

Shooting Dark Star: ..thanks for the welcome-back post. I think people get me confused with that tremendous source "light into ashes." It appears that "light into ashes" arrived on the scene as I disappeared a long, long time ago ....he is the real "ashes" on this forum. I am just a bystander nowadays.

imissJG: "JerryG???" ....wasn't that cat the spouse of Deborah Koons? ...I'm a huge D. Koons fan ...oh, an Weir too..... and let us not forget isn't there a band out there ["Further" maybe?] --- cannot wait to go on a twenty year tour with them.....

....nice moniker {"imissJG"] ....real hard to believe it has been 15 years since I saw him walk off the stage for the final time in Albany that summer evening back in '95.

Peace be with you,

Let me echo the elb, and say "likewise!" He Lives! Your handle always takes me back to the bizarre mixup with how you "appear" on different computer systems...makes me laugh every time (sorry for those that are puzzled; inside joke of sorts).

And seeing Ashes around, and noting the large number of folks with an interest, I happened to scroll thru his listing of posts (assume you newbies know how to do this; coincidently, the issue regarding posters with "large numbers of posts" being excluded from this amazing Forum Feature is resolved...for those that care...ahem), and ironically enough in light of recent discussions vis-a-vis Jerry, his death, and The Movie, thought some of you might get a kick out of Ashes first post here, which was on The Movie (of all things):

Hey Ashes--great to "see" you...sent an email, but some time ago, and probably lost in the shuffle. I even retired (?) from here, but it didn't take, so I come around to bother folks with chit-chat, and mostly check in on Dire and Rob (they both need quite a bit of it).

There are a number of nice newbies around; stick around if you can and you'll see it's going well these days.

Hope life is treating you just grand.
